Flat Sky Luck

Last weekend my wife and I jetted off to San Fransisco to celebrate her birthday. It was a lovely weekend, and her friends down there are utterly amazing. However, it was another trip where the day we set aside to take photos ended up being the worst day to take photos light wise. Starting to feel a bit cursed.

Alcatraz Night Tour

The boat departed for the island late. Which was a double edged sword. We got to see the bay and the city bathed in beautiful light from the setting sun, but not much else. By the time we made it up the hill the sun was set and the island was in the dark. For obvious reasons, the prisoners at Alcatraz didn’t need a lot of light at night.

Sometimes I take a photo and it’s not clear to me whether I like it better in color or black and white. The lighthouse on the island is one of those photos. Given that I was using the Sony 24-50 / F2.8 lens it’s amazing I got this photo to come out like this at all. Chalk it up to the A7C2’s insane IBIS, not my hands because they’re not this stable.

Golden Gate Bridge & Palace of Fine Arts

Sunday we headed out and… the bridge was totally fogged out. The rest of our planned photo spots were also grayed out, so we ended up visiting Master Yoda and the Palace of Fine Arts. Then it was lunch time and we had other engagements that meant an end to photo day. Maybe next time.
